Metamorphic rocks are formed from the sedimentary and igneous rocks, by temperature and pressure. The most known metamorphic rocks are slate, marble, and dolomite. Marble is good for aquarium that needs high PH. Slate is used as a surface for spawning whereas dolomite is suitable for alkaline environment.

Although the rocks in river banks are used to water, they are not recommended for your aquarium. Rocks from bonds and streams might carry harmful bacteria, and other micro-organisms which are helpless outside but are harmful inside the aquarium. Using rocks found close to water bodies almost always causes damage.
